Domain Fright

When I first started this blog I did not foresee the direction it would take. Never in a million years did I believe that I would have this many followers or feed subscribers. For awhile now I have wanted to go from .blogspot.com to .com but I have a fear of the unknown and I am scared that I will screw something up in the process. I do not want to loose my 1000+ followers and feed subscribers and now I definitely do not want to loose my Google Page Rank (that took almost a year to get back). So I am calling on all of you that have switched to your own domain, Please Help! I don't even know who the best hosting site to use is. Is it possible to keep all of your followers, feed subscribers and Google Page Rank? See I am totally clueless. Please help me!

You can make the switch through Blogger itself actually. I believe they use GoDaddy.com? I did my switch directly through Godaddy, though I've heard it is easier to do it through Blogger {but that takes longer}. You won't lose your followers or your page rank since it will automatically redirect to your new domain through your old blogspot addy :)

It is really much easier than you would think.

MamaKat posted about it here: http://www.mamakatslosinit.com/2009/10/owning-your-own-domain.html

I just did mine through blogger--it takes a few hours before your new site will be up with the new name, but this domain will still work. After three days it will redirect traffic that logs onto your old domain to your new one.

It switches your followers for you--I went into feed burner and changed my site. I just looked up my page rank, though, and I have to start over with that--unless I can somehow change it?

Good luck--and it's SUPER easy and cheap to do!

If your page rank drops, it will rebound very, very quickly. As you know, I left the blog world for 2 months completely. When I came back, I started over with no subscribers, no followers, nothing, and went into my own dot com address instead. My page rank came back within a week or two and that's without redirecting a feed. I think you'll be absolutely fine.

What's a page rank? (New blogger here- started a whopping 3 months ago.. Lol!)

You will lose your PR by switching to a different domain. PR is built upon links back to your page among other things and these links currently direct to http://makingmyamericandream.blogspot.com not the new domain. Since you are a PR2 it shouldn't take long to rebuild but you will be doing just that - rebuilding. You can redirect as an option but you may run in to a few glitches along the way.

I went .com and like the shorter url. I don't have a PR so, I didn't lose it.
