Since Princess P was exclusively breastfeed for the first year of her life, I had quite the stash of pumped milk stored in the freezer. This was a necessity for when I was out of the house and C had her alone or for times when I just needed a break and wanted to give her a bottle of breast milk. But, several times, when I would go to heat her a bottle, I would notice that the smell was a little off or she would just flat out reject the milk. Little did I know that the storage bags I was using to freeze the breast milk in were just storing the milk, not properly preserving it.

dexbaby recently sent me a MilkBank Vacuum Storage System for review and since its arrival, I have wondered how we lived without it when Princess P was a baby. The MilkBank Vacuum Storage System includes 1 vacuum pump, 3 vacuum storage caps, 1 - 2.5oz storage/feeding bottle, 2 -4.5oz storage/feeding bottles 1 travel disc and 1 outer insulating bottle with stage 1 nipple and dome.
At first, I thought that the MilkBank System was going to be complicated to use, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Simply fill the bottle with milk, leaving at least a 1/4 inch space at the top, insert the sealing disk into the storage cap and screw it onto the bottle. Then, place the vacuum pump on top of the bottle, hold it firmly against cap with one hand and rapidly pull the top if the vacuum pup up and down until it becomes hard to pull. Now your breast milk is ready for storage!

Another cool thing about the MilkBank from dexbaby, is that you can feed baby with the same bottle that you used to store the milk in! Also, since the system comes with an outer insulating bottle, baby can have warm milk no matter how long the feeding takes! Just add warm water to the outer insulating bottle up to the appropriate fill line and then screw onto the feeding bottle.

If you do plan on keeping quite a bit of breast milk stored, I would recommend purchasing another set of storage/feeding bottles so that you can have extras on-hand. Also, as baby grows, you will want to start going up to larger sized bottles, like the 5oz or 8oz, to keep baby satisfied.

The MilkBank Vacuum Storage System from dexbaby has to be one of the most exciting breastfeeding products I have seen in a long time. I just love the idea of preserving flavor of the milk and protecting vital nutrients (and I love that the bottle makes a "popping" sound when you unscrew the cap to let you know it is fresh!). Plus, the fact that it is free of Phthalates, PVC and BPA makes it that much better!
